It wasn’t a Silicon Valley billionaire or a hedge fund manager, but Beyoncé and Jay-Z who bought the most expensive property of 2023.
Beyoncé and her billionaire husband, valued at $2.5 billion, have broken a record, not in music, but in the real estate sector with their $200 million beachfront mansion in Malibu, making it the priciest real estate deal of 2023.
+ Here’s the corporate jet that can fly half the world without stopping.
The purchase of the Malibu estate for $200 million set the record for the most expensive home sale in California and the largest real estate transaction of 2023, after a substantial discount of $95 million. Next to the previous record-holder, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen’s $177 million house acquired in 2021, art collectors Maria and Bill Bell were already owners of the Malibu mega-mansion.
Spanning 4,000 square meters on 32,000 square meters of land, it took nearly 15 years to construct this entire concrete structure designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who also designed Kanye West’s recently sold house with its gray and monotonous walls. Apparently, the multimillionaires don’t mind aesthetics and enjoy not only the status of this not-so-humble abode but also its amenities.
It features an extensive backyard with a large pool and a cliff overlooking the beach. Inside, the mansion houses the extensive private art collection of the Bells, with pieces from Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Marcel Duchamp.
